„It turns out that an eerie type
of chaos can lurk just behind a facade of order - and yet, deep inside the
chaos lurks an even eerier type of order.“
― Douglas R. Hofstadter
Fascinated by self-reference and duality, I visualize ideas that embody complexity while expressing clarity. Like with this chess set, I strive to reveal deeper patterns.
The core idea is a chess game where each piece fits together seamlessly, much like an M. C. Escher
tesellation,
but in 3D. This generates a self-referential dynamic in which each form creates a
meaningful counterpart,
merging into one big block that questions the concept „negative“. The result is not
just a game but also a visual and conceptual puzzle.
The progression of this chess game mirrors a shift from an ordered state to a
chaotic one, and back again, as the game's structural complexity grows and decays.
This typeface, based on Baskerville, I built with a custom-coded random grid. Each letter is generated using the same rules, creating a uniform look.
